Ask any AI to draft financial statements and it will. You get a full financial statements in Word with Excel workings. What you don’t get is any link between them. Nothing in the Word document knows where its numbers came from.
LedgerQ (plugin for Claude) builds the link. Claude produces the financial statements in Word and Excel workings and with LedgerQ plugin links every table in Word back to the Excel workings behind it.
So when you change the Excel workings (e.g. adjustments, reclassifications) after Claude has produced the report, the report changes with them: every table, note, in one click.
Everyone who has prepared a set of accounts knows the moment. The statements are drafted, the partner has been through them, and then one number moves. A depreciation rate gets corrected. A provision is reclassified. Now the fixed asset note is wrong, and so is the policy paragraph that quotes it, and the profit figure, and two cross-references in the back half of the document.
So you open Word and Excel workings, side by side and start working through manual adjustments.
That is where the time goes. A set of statements takes a day or two, and much of that is re-work rather than preparation. Most of it isn’t difficult. It’s just slow.
The reason is straightforward: Excel and Word know nothing about each other. Figures get copied across, from Excel to Word, and they are not linked.

What you need
Two things, and they do different jobs.
The LedgerQ plugin for Claude. An MCP connector plus the financial reporting skill pack: preparation, review and checklist. This is the drafting side. Claude works from your inputs, the skills hold it to a standard, and LedgerQ links the Word statements to the Excel workings behind them.
The LedgerQ add-in for Word. This is the refresh side. Once the statements are open in Word, the add-in is what pulls a changed figure through from the workings into every table, note and cross-reference that depends on it. No add-in, no refresh.
How it works
Upload your inputs to Claude with LedgerQ plugin installed. Trial balance, general ledger, last year’s signed report, and whatever supporting documents needed to prepare financial statements.
Call the skills. Claude drafts the statements with
ledgerq-preparation-skill, checks them withledgerq-review-skill, and produces the disclosure checklist withledgerq-checklist-skill.Get back a linked financial statements. Report in Word, supporting Excel workings, and a live link between the two.
Then comes the part that saves you the re-work. Change a figure in the workings, hit refresh in the add-in, in Word, and every linked table, note and cross-reference in the Word document is getting updated.
It asks instead of assuming
The skills hold the draft to a standard whether or not your prompt was any good: cast and cross-cast, reconciled, internally consistent, comparatives agreed back to last year. And when something genuinely isn’t clear from what you uploaded, Claude asks you rather than picking whatever looks plausible. Anyone who has reviewed AI-drafted accounts will know why that one matters.
Every number has an address
Tables and note disclosures carry their link back to the cell they came from. When a reviewer asks where a figure came from, nobody goes looking. The document already knows.
